Find the right unit for your child
Scouting is split by age, and each age group has its own kind of local unit. Start with how old your child is. That decides which of the two sections below applies.
Cub Scouts, grades K–5
Cub Scout packs are organized around elementary schools. We'd love to have you, but if another pack meets closer to home, that's better for your family, and we'd rather point you there than have you give up on Scouting entirely.

These are guidelines, not rules. Any family is welcome to join any pack that fits their schedule and their kid. Plenty of scouts have driven past a closer pack to stay with friends.
Older than fifth grade
Cub Scouting ends after fifth grade. After that, Scouting continues, but as a different program with different units, and Pack 426 is not one of them. Older kids join a troop (Scouts BSA, 11 to 17 years old), a crew (Venturing, 14 to 20 years old), or a ship (Sea Scouts, 14 to 20 years old).
These are run by separate groups of volunteers with their own leaders, meeting times, and chartered organizations. Joining one is a fresh registration rather than a transfer. If your child is already past fifth grade, skip the pack list above and search scouting.org for a troop near you.
